Footsteps, light yet accented by gentle scrapings of shoe against wood, echoed down the hallways of Midwich. It seemed like ages worth of dust had settled upon every surface. Streaks appeared down the walls where the walking figure ran her fingers along the dust covered surfaces.
She was sure now. This place was the place.
Dark eyes scanned the corrodors and glanced into the open doorways. Fair skin and long, disheveled dark hair...
Children's laughter echoed through the empty building as shadows darted away from the approaching figure.
"Witch!" giggled one voice as the white robes cladding the figure pushed forward in an otherwise unseen wind. "Theif!" "Diiie!"
Geraldine paid the voices no mind. The tormentors of an already tormented soul... She understood why Alessa would hide here. It was a place no one would think to look... because it was the last place she'd want to be.
She walked down the hallways, the voices and dark feelings getting worse as she slowly continued. Geraldine slipped into the Principal's office and turned on the PA system. She drew her sacred circle on the desk before slowly reciting a prayer.
"Oh holy mother on high taking refuge in your most hated place,
stealing away amongs the shadows of those unworthy,
May your heart be calmed by the knowledge that
those who were less than worthy to call your name
will never call it again."
The monsters and spirits who'd lingered in the halls were silent as the prayer was given until the entire school seemed to be breathing in the words.
She took a deep breath.
"...Alessa."
At the mention of her name, the school turned darker than it even had before... and began shifting.
Geraldine locked the door and turned off the PA system.
"...Lord Cain... Have I done well?"
She was sure now. This place was the place.
