Originally the idea had been to get out of the rain but somehow she'd gotten drawn into the dusty brown walls and dulled interior of the apartment complex. Still dressed in her work clothes, Lisa had found herself dozing on a bench not to fair from here when the fog had rolled in. Fog so thick that it threatened to choke you if you tried to breathe. The water within the fog had been enough to soak any type of fabric, and draw her here into the incredibly empty apartment building.
Lisa was poking around the personal adds on the wall, her arms crossed over her chest as she tried to fight off the cold and rain that had sunk into her skin and hair. Blond strands decorated the sides of her face, clinging like cold slimy seaweed to those pale cheeks. She looked so lost among those browns and grays, like a small red-shoed girl lost in an unfamiliar world. Within her pocket she still held the photograph of the girl; Alessa, and she secretly found herself searching for that beautiful name among the notes on the wall.
Why was this girl so important to her? Why did she have to find her? Why?
Shaken by her dedication to the unknown child, Lisa's eyes turned over the notices. Alice. Alyssa. Amy. Nothing, there was nothing among these scraps and notes. For once in her life she found frustration building within her chest. Unthinkingly, she reached out to remove the notices that did not contain information on her contact. One. Two. Soon she was standing in a mess of crumpled advertisements and notes, one piece of paper remained on the wall. Holding her breath she took it down and read it.
Nothing. The paper hit the floor with a small smack of paper against a hard surface and Lisa continued to stare at the wall in front of her. This town was messed up, she should want to leave it, but there was something more for her here, something...

Phillip walked into the apartment building to seek a dry place to wait out the rain. The fog was bad enough but with the rain too you could hardly see ten feet in front of yourself. He had walked quite a ways with the group of Order members, his path twisting this way and that to navigate through the towns blocked streets and locked doors. He had seen many strange things - monsters, demons, whatever you would want to call them - so the beautiful woman that stood before him was a welcome sight. He pushed his coat hood off his head, never taking his eyes off her. He almost didn't want to trust her already. Nothing was what it seemed....not in this town. He stepped toward her. She was fixated on the wall before her and papers were scattered all around her.
"Hello?" he said gently, sliding the wet, black hair on his face behind his ear. "Are you another one of those religious guys?" He paused for a moment to wait for a response and whiped the water from his shoulders. "My name's Phillip. What's yours?"
As a precaution, Phillip had one hand on the crowbar that hung from the loop on his pant leg. He took another step forward.

She turned with a startled expression, sucking in the musty air and nearly choking at the lack of oxygen it offered. Lisa felt light headed but for some reason she was able to stand as though nothing had happened. Inside her heart beat like a frightened animal as though she had just run a million miles. Behind her, well in front of her now, stood a man she had never seen in her entire existence. He seemed pretty comfortable with the fact that she was a complete stranger.
"Religious guys?" she asked, confused, "what are you talking about?"
Lisa shuffled on the musty floor and noticed the trail of papers that she had torn down from the bulletin board. They littered the floor like tattered pieces of cloth among a surface of black. Various advertisements poked at her, broken and defective. Lisa felt a little bad about what she'd done in her frenzy to meet the girl, Alessa. From another person's prospective she imagined this might look a little weird.
"Sorry, I'm, looking for someone," she finished as though she had a headache, "her name is Alessa."
Ruby red lips trembled slightly under the pressure of memory. Memory was so hard, she had forgotten something very important standing here in this dammed town. Alessa was important, Alessa would be her ticket out of their. Why did she feel so light headed? Her hands reached across her chest, crossing with one another so that they seemed to hold her together. Lisa felt fragile for some reason, easily broken with the wrong words.

"Yeah, the people I met earlier. They were religious fanatics. I met them across the lake where i woke up...Wait, did you say Alessa?....That's who they were looking for, too. Who is she and why is she so important?" It was odd that everyone he met was looking for this girl. That much didn't get by Phillip, but who or what she was was still eluding him. He looked her over, she seemed very shaken. "Are you okay, miss?" She was cradling herself in her arms. She looked lost. "Have you been hurt by those creatures?" He looked around to make sure that none just happened to be in the room, he had had his fill of them today, but was relieved to see that they were alone.

"No, no i'm fine," she finished, the man's concern had brought her away from the cold place within her heart.
Lisa took a moment to absorb those words. Religious cult? They were looking for Alessa too? She thought her heart would stop. Memories fluttered onto her consciousness. The cult, the silent hill cult, they were here, they had done something horrible. White claudia. There was a dry taste in her throat as she remembered the drug's name well. It was the drug that she was a slave to, something that she'd been addicted to ever since Kaufmann had hired her.
"The cult? They want Alessa? I don't even know who she is..."
She unfolded her arms, still feeling the sticking wet texture of her hair on her face. Something inside her mind was turning in the wrong direction, making the pit of her stomach feel uneasy. Lisa was sure that she paled slightly underneath the pressure of those words. Something didn't seem right, something was different about this place, something was evil here. Very evil. Lisa watched the man in front of her with a curious sorrow, as though she were a spectator to her own life.
"Who are you?" words were hard to form in the silence of the apartments.

Phillip felt a swell of sorrow emanating from the woman. Whether it was that or the gloomy darkness of the rundown apartment lobby he felt that sorrow penetrate him. He lowered his guard and spoke softly as she had. "I'm glad you're alright." He put his hand behind his head and gave a large grin, perhaps trying to break the mood. "My name's Phillip. What's yours?" He was trying very hard not to stare at her. She was quite beautiful. "So how did you get her anyway? I had the misfortune of waking up in the sanitarium across the lake." He giggled uncomfortably, "Fitting i guess, 'cuz the things I've seen would definitely get someone put in the loony bin. But somehow, in this place, it seems...right." He put his arm down and waited for her response, hoping his mood would make her feel better in some way.

Phillip's efforts to make her less lonely had the intended effect, a small little light sparked in her heart as he offered his comfort. Something about the stranger seemed familiar, like she knew him from somewhere else. Lisa felt the familiar feeling of a memory much like what was happening now occurring. But she had never seen him. He looked familiar and yet different.
"I'm Lisa, Lisa Garland," she offered, less alone than she had been before, "I, I don't know how I got here. I woke up on a bench after, after that siren, and it started to rain. That's why i'm here."
Blond hair had dried slightly in the duskiness of the apartments and she was forced to brush it off of her face. Emerald eyes watched the world around her fade from a darkened shadow-black to a light brown, the color of normalcy. There was a great clue here, something that she needed, and something told her that this man, Phillip, would be a keystone in her mission to find Alessa Gillispie.
"But Alessa, the girl, I have to find her," Lisa paused, "Why are you in Silent Hill? Why did you come here to this place, it's dangerous here. Something is... wrong with it but i'm sure you know that now."

"I don't know why I'm here...yet. That priestess chick kept saying that the 'gods' would tell me, if i was patient. I'm heading toward my dad's old ranch on the far side of South Vale. She seemed to know him but wouldn't tell me much. But yes it is very dangerous here, but that siren seems to have something to do with it..." He realized he was rambling and changed the subject, "But as for the Alessa thing...they didn't tell me who she was or why they were looking for her. So unfortunately i don't know where she is, or id gladly tell you." He paused for a moment. "Lisa Garland" That name sounded so familiar to him. He had so much trouble remembering his past lately that it just hung in his mind like the fog in the streets, intangible. But it was there. He decide to wait until he got to know her better before pushing the subject, maybe he'd figure it out on his own in time. He wanted to help her, to protect her. Phillip smiled at her again, "Well Lisa, I doubt we'll find any answers just standing here." He held out his hand, "Where did you want to start looking?"

"Alright, i'll try to help you find whatever you're looking for Phillip," she started, "I know you'll find it."
A perfect stranger yet he had offered her what the suggested heat of the apartment buildings had not; a safe haven. Life was better when it was lived with someone else to witness, even if that someone was a perfect stranger. Around them things seemed to be simple, a small lobby with a stairwell at the end and a door leading outside. The bulletin board had almost been destroyed by her efforts but Lisa managed to snatch something useful.
"Here, a map," she folded the map out on the wall so that Phillip could see it as well. There was a small piece on it that read 'you are here', "Any ideas?"
Lisa's eyes skimmed over the rooms marked on the map. Nothing of interest. There would be nothing tying her to Alessa there but she knew that she had been drawn to this building for a reason. What reason she would be sure to find out. Her manicured nails traced the pages and found nothing. She sighed as she looked over the map and tried to find some sort of direction. There wasn't anything here that was standing out...
"She isn't here. We should try somewhere else maybe?" it was more of a question than a statement.

Phillip stepped over to her and looked the map over carefully. On the first floor it showed the exterior of the apartments and what seemed to be a pool area. "No, I can wait. I will help you find Alessa then we can worry about me. I don't even know what I'm looking for out there." As he starred at the paper a small burn seemed to appear on the pool, burning outward quickly and violently, he blinked and it was gone. He quickly stepped back in shock, rubbing his eyes.
He looked at it again. "I...I thought I saw something...Here." He pointed to the pool area. "I saw....fire." He put his hand to his head and looked into Lisa's eyes. "I guess we should look there, huh?" He grinned.

"Fire? I thought it was raining out...?" Lisa asked, confusion seemed to be a popular theme.
Inside her head there was a strange feeling, a sort of sluggish headache that wouldn't go away. It was as though she needed something, something that was missing. Unintentionally Lisa's fingers went to her pocket yet she found nothing to take. Had she been thinking of advil? Just as soon as the feeling came, it was gone again and suddenly Phillip was on his way to the pool side.
"Personally if it were up to me, I'd say we stay as far away from that pool as possible," she began, "but I guess then we'd never find our answers, huh?"
Red heels clicked against the wooden floorboards as she made her way to the door at the end of the hallway. The glass had become somewhat fogged but you could still catch a good view of the outside. Had he really spotted something outside? Lisa knew she was a fool to trust strangers but she wouldn't have thought twice about someone nice like Phillip not having good intents. Blindly, she followed him outside.
Fog swirled madly about them but Lisa continued to walk, listening for the sounds of movement along the dead and dying courtyard. There was nothing save the soft swish of something blowing in the breeze not too far. Trees most likely but it didn't stop her body from tensing. She'd lost the knife that Samantha had given her somehow in the mess...

The rain had stopped and it was just the fog now that surrounded them. Phillip stepped to the poolside, Lisa following cautiously behind, and peered inside. He wasn't sure what to expect, having a vision lead him to a spot and all. In the center of the empty pool was a mess of paperwork in folders. Phillip hopped down into the pool and walked over to the scattered papers. He knelt down, a sifted through them. They were hospital records.
"What the hell?...What are all of these doing here?" he said to himself. The names on the folders were a bit faded. On the bottom of the pile was a burned folder, but the name was quite visible. The name read Alessa Gillespie. He stood, folder in hand, with a confused look on his face. He opened the folder and read the reports inside. "Lisa...you might want to see this." They all had a doctor's signature on the bottom...and below his was Lisa's. Phillip walked over to the edge that Lisa stood at. "Your name is on these..."

"Papers? With my name on it?" she asked, her voice frosted over, "I don't remember..."
Lisa took the papers that he had handed her, hand on her forehead as she tried to shift through the contents. These didn't make sense to her. Blood stained the bottom end of the document in an ominous splatter pattern and the papers were slightly torn as though someone had debated getting rid of them. Sure enough she saw her name under the nurse section of the papers. Lisa held her breath as she read.
Alessa Gillispie, early teens. Daughter to Dalia Gillispie. Victim was found with third degree burns covering her entire body. Cause of fire remains unknown. For investigative purposes please contact the Brahms Police. Victim was emitted at 0400 hr. Victim was pronounced dead at 0423 hr. Body was given back to the mother, Dalia Gillispie who later buried her daughter in Silent Hill's famous cemetery.
"Pronounced... dead?" Lisa felt her lip quiver at the words.
Was she seeking a dead person? Hadn't this girl just been...? A certain sort of stone had settled in her stomach, making her body feel faint in the thick fog surrounding them. Alessa was dead. So then why was it so important that Lisa find her? What was the sense in chasing dead ends? And why here of all places would these documents be? Her questions were solved with a simple thought;
Dr. Michael Kaufmann.

"Dead?" he said with a perplexed look. It made no sense, but then again, nothing here did. He climbed out of the pool and stood next to Lisa, looking over her arm at the reports. "But then why would so many people be looking for her?" He shook his head, "It has to be false." Phillip took a step back and looked at Lisa, her eyes still fixated on the papers in her hand. "You really can't remember anything about her?" He had a comforting tone in his voice. Phillip knew she was very confused right now and wanted to help, but he also didn't want to push her. The bushes began to rustle again, whether by the wind or something more. "Maybe we should go back inside...."

"Yeah..." her voice trailed off and she found it hard to focus.
At the far end of the courtyard a loud scrape emitted as though someone where forcing open the door. Lisa's heart jumped into her throat, beating a mile a minute in an attempt to fill her body with adrenaline. She knew that something was wrong; this place was not safe as she had thought it was. The paper crumpled in her grips as she grabbed at Phillip's arm, pulling him closer to the door.
Lisa didn't speak, she only looked into his eyes with fear, her large green irises seemed to sparkle like that of a doe caught in the headlights of a car. Within her body every nerve seemed to pinprick at her skin, raising the hairs. It was hard to run in heels but somehow Lisa managed to get through the doorway, Phillip was hopefully right after her.
"We should get out of here..." she tried to speak but her words were almost a whisper.
Moving over to the door, Lisa's fingertips fell on the handle. With a quick tug she tried to make the door budge but it only shook the frame as though someone had locked it from the outside. Locked it? How could someone have possibly locked...? She suddenly found herself living her worst nightmare. It was just like before. Would the siren come now or would its piercing scream permeate the later minutes of her existence?
